Finding Your Center in the Spring Rush - A message from BK5 Mindful Coach Gretchen
If you’ve stepped outside in the Seattle area over the last week, you’ve likely felt it: that sudden, electric surge of spring. After winter (and that surprise March snow!), the sun has finally decided to stay a while. The cherry blossoms are exploding, the tulips are reaching for the sky, and there is a collective sense of go, go, go.
When the sun comes out, we all feel a natural pressure to bloom instantly. We want to clear out our gardens, start every new project at once, and hit the trails at full speed. It’s an exciting time, but it can also be a little overwhelming. We might keep up the pace for a little while, but eventually, we’ll run out of steam and struggle to stay upright when things don't go as planned.
In the natural world, a plant won’t survive the season if its root system isn't established first. The same is true for us. To handle the high-energy demands of our busy lives, we need a steady foundation.
Mindfulness is one way we can cultivate those roots. It’s the 30 seconds you take before your feet hit the floor in the morning to decide how you want to feel, regardless of how many emails are waiting for you. It’s the Sunlight Breath I shared practiced last week—taking a moment to feel the ground beneath us before we reach for the sun.
Grounding isn't about standing still or being stagnant; it’s about being stable enough to move effectively.
As you navigate the beautiful rush of April, I invite you to check in with your own roots. Before you add another item to your to-do list or rush into your next meeting, try this: Place your feet flat on the floor. Feel the solid support of the earth beneath you. Take one deep breath into your center.
You don't need to be in full bloom to be strong. In fact, the strongest thing you can do today is simply trust your roots. What is one thing you’re doing this week to stay grounded while you grow?
With gratitude,
Coach Gretchen
