The little things

It’s the little things.

When you start your day do you begin it with a win or a loss? An investment in yourself and your day or do you procrastinate telling yourself maybe later? The less than 5 minutes, it takes to make your bed can be that simple act that can define your outlook and outcome. Investing in you, your most valuable asset. All the endless possibilities the world has for you, for your day, begin with your state of mind at the start of your day.

Make your bed.

The next time you awaken, the first thing you do before your morning coffee, before running out the door to go to work or before you kiss your spouse ‘good morning’. Start by making your bed. If making your bed seems like a mundane task or a waste of time; consider shifting that simple act by being present in that moment. First take a deep breath, then feel the fibers of your sheet or pillowcase to the point you can almost count every single thread flow through your fingertips. Realizing that this is your moment.

No matter what is coming next, you get to have this moment. You're will find peace and find a sense of pride in these once mundane task. Overtime these simple practices will instill a sense of accomplishment that will spill over into every other part of your day.

Meditate.

Positive self-reinforcement, affirmations, and morning meditation create a strong foundation for your day. Basic meditation, just a few minutes each day, can have dramatic effects on your daily routine. When the stress of the day becomes too much, which it often does, close your eyes go back to that moment when you can almost count every single sheet thread. Breathe. Take another deep breath and re-center your day, realizing that it is your day not anyone else's. So you get to stay in the driver’s seat.

Make choices.

No matter what the world chooses to throw at you, you as a living breathing sentient being get to decide what this day does for you. Remember you are the owner of your time. Consider this point of reflection: “Will I let this drag me down? Or how do I use it as the fire to drive me further to push harder? Not my boss, this situation or past hurts get’s to decide what I give my time and effort to.”

Own your morning and all the little things that come with it.
